"Friends of Jackson County is the only local organization focused on preserving farmland, forestland, wild life habitat and open space in Jackson County for future generations. Friends of Jackson County is an Affiliate of 1000 Friends of Oregon. We are supported by our membership and by donations from both organizations and individuals.  Mission Statement

 

To educate the public regarding the importance of protecting resource lands, wild life habitat, open space, and park lands and to assist the public in protecting these lands.

Organizational Activities:

 To encourage government bodies in Jackson County to uphold State, County, and Municipal land use laws designed to protect farm land, forest land, wild life habitat, open space, and park land.

To encourage more efficient use of land so as to end sprawl.

To encourage government bodies to cease subsidizing growth. Systems development charges must cover the true cost of growth to the public.

To participate in regional problem solving or regional development forums.

 To participate in revising land development ordinances towards achieving our Mission Statement.

 To monitor land use decisions in the county and in municipalities and to intervene in cases of legal non- compliance.

 

Overview Statement

The Friends of Jackson County recognize that incessant growth exacerbates the challenge of preserving livability in Jackson County.
